Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Diseases
University of Pittsburgh
In recent years with the establishment of the Dorothy P. and Richard P. Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Diseases through a generous donation of the Simmons family, Pennsylvania has become a leader in research and management of IPF patients.

The University of Pittsburgh Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Disease is the national leader in implementing genomics approaches to better understand pulmonary fibrosis, and physicians at the center have gained national recognition. Since its development 5 years ago, physicians and investigators from the center have seen more then 1,400 patients with interstitial lung disease, have published multiple papers, earned grants from NIH, established a local database and lectured in multiple international conferences.

The Dorothy P. & Richard P. Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Diseases provides:

  • state-of-the-art care for patients with interstitial lung disease that is comprehensive and compassionate
  • international leadership in research on lung inflammation and fibrosis, promoting the translation of scientific discoveries into new treatments for patients with these lung disorders
  • a complete resource for the education of patients and their families regarding the disease and its impact on their lifestyle
